'Kubo' Or Crow Pheasant (Centropus sinensis)

Kubo is a common bird of Bengal. It can be
seen everywhere in rural Bengal. It has
bright brown wings and long black tail with red eyes.
It builds nest during summer with leaves and hay. And lay 3-4 eggs. It
calls 'Kub kub'and their nest looks like a ball of rugby.
They're permanent resident of Bengal.
This bird can be found in Kolkata at Agri Horticulture and Central
Park and also at Botanical Garden.--

Blackheaded Oriole

This yellow bird has deep black colour on his head, neck and upper
portion of chest. Their bills are pink colour and eyes red.

We call them "Bene-bou" in Bangla.

Fruits and nectar of flowers are their main food.

In the summer season, they use to build nests by the skin of trees and
it looks like a container. They lay 2-3 eggs.

They live in pair. During mating season, the male bird use to call the
female from the hiding place of thick leaves and the female bird call
back him sitting nearby.

Their call sounds like 'whooeou'.

They are permanent resident of Bengal.

One can see them everywhere, even in the city of Kolkata.

Their Latin name is Oriolus xanthornus.

Tailor Bird

One can see a sparrow-like small bird running here and there in rural
areas keeping its tail up. It is 'Tuntuni' in Bangla.

They don't afraid of us.

Its head reddish, lower part of body is white and upper part olive-green.

Though they are small, their voice is very high. They call like
"to-eet to-eet...".

Small insects to nectar of flowers - all of these are their food. They
build their nests in monsoon. Their nest looks like a container - made
of soft cotton, hair and thin creeps and it is a good instance of fine
technology.

Two stiched leaves surround their nest.

They lay 3-4 eggs.

'Tuntuni' can be seen across India. But they are permanent resident of Bengal.

One can see their at Eden Garden in Kolkata.--

Shama

Back of 'Shama' is black. They have white mark at the end of back.
Their tail is black & white. Their belly is reddish brown.

Shama can be seen mainly in
North Bengal. They have outstanding ability to whistle.

During summer, they use to build nests at the bottom of trees with
grass, hair etc. They lay 3-5 eggs at a time. But they use to avoid
human localities. They love to stay alone.

Their voice is very sweet. From March to May - they sing frequently
like 'choor-chi-choorrr'.

'Shama' - permanent resident of Bengal.

Latin name of Shama is C. malabaricus.--

Magpie Robin

Bangla name 'Doyel' - a common bird of Bengal. It can be seen in the backyard
and on low branches of trees. It looks like Wagtail, but its tail
always remains upward. Black from head to upper portion of the tail,
from belly to the lower parts of tail - white. The bird has white mark
on wings. The female bird is not black, but brownish.
When summer comes, a fine
tune occupy its voice and the bird use to sing with the rhythmic
movement of tails.

Small insects and ripe fruits - their food.

They use to build their nests just before monsoon. One can see their
nests on trees, in the gap of pipes and lamp-posts.
The scientific name of Doyel/Magpie Robin is Copsychus saularis. --
